The Basics of Bespoke Bathroom Design

Bathrooms are a sanctuary. They are a place to express your personality, to relax and unwind and simply reset! This important space within a home can be easy to love when it functions, feels, and looks the way you want it to.

Curating our client’s ideal bathrooms is done with a skilful and intuitive approach. We push the boundaries, mixing aesthetics with function to create unique spaces of retreat and calm.

Let’s take a look at some of our favourite Langlois Design bathroom moments and examine the way we take the basics of a bathroom space to the next level. Let’s explore…

TILES

Contrasting patterns, pops of colour, a variety of finishes… the options are endless when selecting tiles for your bathroom space. Finding the right tiles are key to making your bathroom uniquely yours!

Speaking of unique, the gradient pixel tile selected for the Main Beach Penthouse (left) was truly distinctive. This floor to ceiling statement tile transformed the space, adding drama, intrigue, and vibrancy.

Project Beatrice (right) showcases a more pared back approach, allowing the pattern and texture of the tiles to speak. With monochromatic, aquatic sage hues throughout, the space feels elevated and fresh against the crispness of the white tiled walls.

FIXTURES & ACCESSORIES

Quality and aesthetics are the key components that we consider when selecting the fixtures and accessories within a bathroom. The fixtures selected can build synergy, tying in the different elements of the room and creating a distinctive narrative, or can juxtapose, clash and stand out as focal points of the space.

For the Powder Room in the Main Beach Penthouse (left) we focused on brilliant brass accessories and tapware, pulling inspiration from the vibrant hues of the wallpaper. This cohesive and sophisticated aesthetic introduced a sense of fun and maximalist design style.

In direct juxtaposition, the Byron Bay Residence’s powder room (right) allowed for a more pared back approach. Interest was generated through the selection of a uniquely shaped basin and distinctive fixtures, featured in a sleek and minimal polished chrome finish.

LIGHTING

While it might be an afterthought for some, lighting is one of the most important and influential elements within a bathroom. Whether it be natural light, LED strips, a pendant or decorative wall lamps; choosing the right form and placement of lighting options within your space is key!

The Clayfield Residence (left) demonstrates the use of natural lighting at its best. This small powder room space is filled with bright, natural light, opening up the room and amplifying the finishes. The off-centre pendant adds an element of drama and successfully connects the skylight down to the vanity space, whilst also tying in with the black finish of the tapware.

At the Byron Bay Residence (right), we added a multi-tiered frosted glass pendant over the large freestanding bath, and warm LED track lights into the recess of the sheer window treatment. These inclusions not only provide necessary illumination but create a soft inviting ambience that envelopes the space.

STORAGE

Aesthetics are fundamental – but so is functionality! Making sure the bathroom has apt storage and serves those using the space is vital. Customising cabinetry to fit your specific needs & wants provides an opportunity to find the endless products and appliances taking up bench space, a home.

For the Byron Bay Residence (left) we created a full width vanity with storage throughout. The addition of a stool niche allows the client to utilise this space as a makeup station, providing dual functionality.

Comparatively, for Project Beatrice (right) we designed a mirrored shaving cabinet. This is a sleek and effective storage option for a room with limited space. Including PowerPoints inside is always a must!
